Snips In Numbers
SiN – 2 – 10%
Indians form about 10% of the world’s crypto investors. Ironically, the Indian government is in talks to ban its citizens from dealing in crypto in any form!
SiN – 3 – 7.5%; 13.5%; 14.8%
Stress tests by the Reserve Bank of India shows that Gross NPAs can reach up to 13.5% in September 2021 as compare to 7.5% in September 2020. If the macroeconomic conditions worsen, it may reach up to 14.8%.
Tiny Snips
TS – 2 – Plaid Reborn
Plaid which was almost bought by VISA for $5.3 billion – in a deal that was blocked by the regulators as it was thought VISA would have a monopoly over the online debit card market – recently raised $425 million at a $13.4 billion valuation.
This hefty valuation might be due to the buzz startups and fintech in particular have now, but if the Justice Dept intervened and blocked the deal, there should have been more to it than the leadership at Plaid must have known. This is one of those moments where you need the universe to show you what you’re worth. LOL
TS – 3 – Snap x Screenshop x KKW
Snap acquired Screenshop which was endorsed by Kim Kardashian West, who was earlier an advisor on the UI of the company. Phew, that was a mouthful!
Screenshop is a fashion recommendation app that analyses the user’s photos using AI to understand their preferences and then recommends them products from its retail partners.
For Snap, it is an attempt to enter into the social media commerce space.
And with Snap also reportedly developing a new, AR-enabled version of Spectacles, the app is poised to remain on the cutting edge of the next AR evolution, which has the potential to transform online shopping, in various ways.
TS – 4 – Netflix x Sony Pictures
Netflix grabbed exclusive streaming rights to entire set of movies to be released by Sony Pictures in 2022 as a part of a multi-year deal. That might include the sequel to “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”!
The deal will also allow Netflix to stream Sony’s extensive library including the ones of Columbia Pictures.
Notably Sony Pictures doesn’t have its own streaming platform so the deal is pretty much sealed for some years from now for sure!
TS – 5 – Meet Mr. “Bleep”
Intel is launching an AI solution to recognize and redact hate-speech real time called Bleep. Developed with game streamers in mind, the solution aims to provide an interface where they can customize how much of “Racism” or other kinds of hate speech they want to hear/see and even a toggle switch for the N-word! Intel said it will release it this year.
TBH, it seems to be an interesting quickfix for hardcore e-sports players.
